(Greetings from Home)
GERMANY
This mural was made for the final exhibition
of the sixth Fresh A.I.R. artist in residence
programme in Berlin. It is the result of Linda
“Superflinda” Söderholm’s exploration of the
theme and notions of migration, home, and
language, which she then channels through
her typographic works.
The piece is inspired by American vintage
postcards from the 1930s, 40s, and 50s. Many
of these were printed by German-born printer
Curt Teich, who, when migrating to America
in 1895, brought with him the tradition of the
Grüße aus der Region (Greetings from the
Region) postcards from German-speaking
parts of Europe.
