The artwork for the painted signs and props
originated from the graphic design team, led
by Erica Dorn. These designs were supplied
alongside mock-ups to show how they would
be used on set, and many needed to be aged
to match the faded aesthetic so common in
French towns and cities. One of these was
a mural advertising absinthe, which was
designed by long-time Anderson collaborator
Annie Atkins. (Atkins’ book Designing Graphic
Props for Filmmaking offers insights into her
approach and work on film projects in general.)
