Breakneck Work
The final installation took two weeks on site.
Ahead of this Cami and Damiano trained at
the gym to get themselves physically ready
for working on the ceiling: they don’t think it
helped much as the sore necks were ultimately
unavoidable! After painting the block Imagina
lettering, the Stamps Neon firm installed the
illuminated elements.
Tips
Aim to paint in front of your head and body.
It needs more care because you’re not
looking square-on at your work, but you’ll
avoid getting paint in your eyes and hair,
and strain your neck much less.
Cover the floor. There are going to be lots
of drips and you want to catch all of them.
Also, the paint will regularly run down
the length of your brush and onto your
hands—it’s messier work than usual!
Reflecting again on the project, Cami and
Damiano offer these additional tips for
anyone planning a ceiling mural.
Charge two to three times more than
you would for a regular mural. Not only is
the design process more complex, the
installation itself is much slower due to
the need to rest your neck regularly.
Work in progress on the ceiling.
