Black Light on Black and White
The bold Hebrew text by day.
Oskar Podolski’s portrait of Aaron the high priest
by night.
rocław, a city in Southwest Poland,
is now home to a mural that changes
dramatically in appearance at
night. Warsaw’s Good Looking Studio painted
the wall based on the original artwork by
Oskar Podolski, aka OESU. It required the use
of UV-sensitive paints, which were applied
over the white at night; protective glasses
were needed to avoid eye damage from
long-term exposure to UV (or black) light.
The mural is located on the Joyinn Aparthotel
building at Włodkowica 16, Wrocław.

The text is Hebrew from the bible and translates
to “Aaron, the first high priest” (of the Israelites).
By night, the wall is illuminated with UV light,
revealing the face of Aaron himself. This mural
was commissioned in celebration of another
project’s completion: the recently-restored
Michael Engler organ, which also features a
sculpture of Aaron.

which only appears at night under UV light.
